Tips From an Experienced Quitter

    • Realize that you’re going to have cravings from quitting smoking.  Get ready for them.

    • Write down every reason why you want to quit smoking.

    • When you get a nicotine craving, do something else.  Try to do something that you enjoy to keep your mind from thinking about cigarettes.
       
    • Find pictures on the internet of body parts damaged by smoking.

    • Avoid possible situations you would normally smoke cigarrettes at while you are quitting smoking.  For example, if you are invited to the bar the first week you have quit smoking, don't go.  Do not set yourself up for failure.
       
    • Talk yourself into the fact that you’re already a successful quitter.  Envision what success looks like for you.
       
    • Realize that when you quit smoking, you are your own worst enemy.  It’s like a split personality disorder where one half of your brain wants to quit smoking and the other half keeps trying to talk you in to quitting tomorrow – not today.
